Velma Horst has been the music teacher for the preschool and early learning center since 2017, and a substitute teacher for the early learning center since 2005. Velma has an extensive background in working with children and music. She helped open Cedarwood Preschool in Christiansburg, Virginia, in 2000, and worked as director there until 2004. She was also a Kindergarten Teacher at Abundant Life Preschool in Stephens City, Virginia, from 1993-1996, and she began her career as a music teacher for Strawberry Patch Preschool also in Stephens City from 1974-1993. She currently leads children in music at Calvary Church of the Brethren, and sings herself in the church choir. She also sings with Shenandoah Valley Threshold Singers, singing at Blue Ridge Hospice and other hospital settings. She has 4 children and 23 grandchildren and, so far, 7 great-grandchildren. Velma always looks forward to seeing the children, hearing their voices, and receiving their hugs.
